Did we ever find out who composed the original song? The original game came out during that wacky period when the credits for NES games were filled with bizarre Engrish nicknames. We know it was made by the same folks who were behind the Mega Man games at the time, so it's not too much of a stretch to assume the same maestro's of those soundtracks might have played a similar hand.
According to some light Google-fu, the original composer was "Hiroshige Tonomura". Some light work in the late 80's and early 90's, and then he just kind of... disappeared. I guess they don't all have to be Nobuo Uematsu. I wonder how many composers working today will have a legacy (or even discography) as lingering as this one song.
